Woman Cutting Her Credit Cards

We have all heard people say that ‘ money complicates things’, that is no less true for abusive relationships. Financial Abuse by toxic people has many forms, and can take place in many different relationships.

What is Financial Abuse

Financial Abuse is pretty much any manipulation or controlling behavior that is linked to income and expenditure. It is very often stealth and not an outright demand, which makes it all that much more difficult to defend against. Here are some examples:

  • Creating a situation where the target either loses or must quit a job
  • Inventing reasons to “need” a “loan” from the target, even while knowing the target may not necessarily have the funds
  • Demanding total control over the target’s finances

The game is the same, just difference in the players. This part just never ceases to amaze me. Hope you all got something out of it!

Sorry, have to repost a shorter reply Aubrey and Monkey… Thanks for the podcast. I think more people need to be educated and aware of this.
never be persuaded to have joint accounts. We were upset to find the NARC spend money when in debt to go on holidays. We think new target (who thinks she is his soulmate when cheating with him and refuses to believe he is bad) is helping to hide monies. NARC keeps telling kids she pays for everything. He makes a point telling the kids this lie. We think he thinks he can outsmart all of us. Inflated egos.
Looking back… I think my father was a NARC and did things secretly behind my mothers’ back… Including selling our old house as she let him do all the paperwork and trusted him.
