Tomorrow we celebrate that SwanWaters has been online for a full year! We want to take this milestone to remember our journey, and remind ourselves (and all of you) of the reasons we had for starting on this journey.
Finding Our Sisters
Everybody involved in dreaming up SwanWaters grew up in a family that made them feel unloved and alone. We had already started on our own individual healing journeys. In fact, that is how we all met and connected. Although we were often many hundreds—if not thousands—of miles away, we connected on a profound level. We shared experiences that had made us feel alone. We could talk about emotions that we thought only we experienced. The more we shared the closer we became. Then came the day that we started to call each other sisters. The first true sisterhood we felt part off. We breathed in the love, and we started to fly higher and higher.
As our wings started to become stronger on our collective healing journey, we realized that we wanted to share our sense of connectedness with others, too. In essence, this is when we started talking about creating a community website for healing. We wanted to extend our Family of Choice, and welcome others to join us. The more the merrier The more people we could reach, the more healing we could create. Not just for them, but also for ourselves.
To make our dreams come true, we started the organization Swan Sisters, in honor of our new found sisterhood.
Ugly Ducklings No More
We started talking about the ideal website. We started creating; writing articles, and creating a community platform. We were doing something we never thought we would be able to do. We realized how far we had come, and how much we had grown. To describe our transformation we talked about the story of The Ugly Duckling, and that’s where the swan references came from. The transformation from feeling unworthy and unlovable to being a gracious, strong, and fiercely-proud swan.
Of course we did not want for our swan brothers to feel excluded from our community. We wanted a Swan Lake for everyone that was made to feel like an Ugly Duckling to have a place of support on their journey of healing.
